Once the Jubilee Masses are celebrated at the Cathedral of St. Patrick in June, and Budgets are turned in, the fun begins….Amidst all of the vacations and summer Fridays, here are some of the things happening in the Family Life/Respect Life Office:
- The Sisters of Life (Sr. Lucy and Sr. Shirley) and the Director (Kathy) spent a week in Kansas City at the Annual USCCB Pro-Life Leadership Conference. Key to know is that we (The ADNY) will host the event next year, as Cardinal Dolan becomes the new Chair of the USCCB Pro-Life Committee in November 2015.
- The Week of August 3rd is a highlight for the Sisters of Life as they celebrate three Sisters Professing First Vows and eight Sisters making final profession of Vows. Sr. Lucy and Sr. Shirley, our Respect Life Coordinator and Asst. Coordinator are with their community during this special time. Please join us in praying with and for the Sisters as they offer their lives to the Lord of Life in Poverty, Chastity, and Obedience, to protect and enhance the sacredness of human life.
- The Director, Kathy Wither, will be heading off to Plymouth, MI for an August 10-12 Conference “Love one another as I have loved you” – Welcoming and Accompanying Our Brothers and Sisters with Same-Sex Attraction. This international conference is designed to help answer the questions posed in the Lineamenta for the 2015 Synod on the Family: “The pastoral care of persons with homosexual tendencies poses new challenges today, due to the manner in which their rights are proposed in society. How can the Christian community give pastoral attention to families with persons with homosexual tendencies? What are the responses that, in light of cultural sensitivities, are considered to be most appropriate?”
